New Mechanics

“Almost Dead” and “Left for Dead”

In order to encourage a campaign where not every combat encounter is one that the party is expected to win or even be available to win, there are new mechanics to support those occasions where battles go awry. All spells and death savings throws associated with death continue to function the same. However, if a character reaches a state where they would otherwise die, the new mechanics kick in.

If the body of a character that should have otherwise died is recovered by the party and nursed back to health, this “almost dead” character can be revived from a catatonic state after a long rest. As a result of this trauma, the character will suffer a permanent one point loss of Constitution. It should be expected that any clever attempts to circumvent this loss of constitution will be thwarted.

If the body of the dead character cannot be recovered, the character will considered “left for dead”. The character will eventually be revived on their own and be able to rejoin the party having suffered the loss of one point of constitution and one level. Again, it should be expected that clever attempts to circumvent these losses will be thwarted.

Hockey Stick Bow

Essentially, it is a long bow with a peculiar curvature that is also sturdy enough the beat someone with as if it were a quarterstaff.
