Castle Rend
Overview
Details
Castle Rend is located approximately fifteen miles southwest of Highbridge on the opposite side of the Green River. The trade road leading to Darkstone, since closed by the Ancient Dominion of the Unending Lands, passes by about fifteen miles to the north. The fortress had been abandoned for decades or more before a company of orcs led by Bonebreaker Dorokor took control sometime between the fall of Highbridge to The Hate Incarnate in 164 AFE and the its capture by the party in 167 AFE. The orcs had been using it as a base to conduct operations against The Hate Incarnate, including their abduction of Pinna. The castle walls encompass an area approximately 120 feet by eighty feet. The walls are thirty feet high and ten feet thick in most locations. Despite some crumbling due to the effects of time - in particular, a stone facade that might have covered the walls is largely eroded away - the walls themselves seem stout and strong. The primary features of the castle are a five-story, stone tower in the northeast corner that measures twenty-five per side and a pair of forty foot tall, square guard towers on either side of the gate leading to the yard within.
Prominently located on the first floor of the the main tower is an ancient temple of Lathander, featuring a worn statue of the god that is 10 feet tall.
History
Little is known of the history of the castle, although the elf /wiki/spaces/CAM/pages/610402359, who identified himself as an an ambassador from Hold Erenlune, claims that Erenlune had a mutual defense treaty with Hold Rendalia that dated back to the Fifth Age. Yornan identified himself as the master of the castle upon Atha's arrival and received the corresponding benefits.
Currently
The castle is being managed by Pinna and Kelmen - as Chatelaine and Castellan - while the party is away or otherwise too busy to be occupied with the details of administration. A group of twenty or so former inhabitants of Highbridge, consisting predominantly of survivors from the defense of the castle against the attack of Brother Pelliton and his The Hate Incarnate allies, have taken upon residence in and around the castle, setting up a small blacksmith shop and organizing hunting parties in order to support themselves.
Other
For the sake of posterity, this is the map provided by Kelmen that indicated troop movements associated with Brother Pelliton's assault on the Castle.
