This occurs on the night after the raid of the tomb of Imbriel the Stargazer beneath Castle Rend.

Castle Rend grows dark as everyone heads off to their room. Only Ser Shadow remains in the Great Hall, watching the stubs of the last candles as they burn down to nothing. And then, whoosh, an errant breeze extinguishes them for good. Is that a metaphor? Perhaps.

Suddenly one of the guards that had been guarding the gate rushes in with a long wooden box and a note. He describes how a women had appeared at the gate and called for Ser Shadow by name. IThe guard had demanded that she identify herself and she refused. When I would not let her in, she left this for you and then disappeared.

Ser Shadow takes the note first and reads.

I have been watching you. You have begun to grow into your powers. You are nearly ready to take your place at my side.

But first, this Namaria, she works for us, although she knows it not. She is a useful tool. Powerful but naive. A man like yourself should be able to turn her to our side.

I control her contact, this so-called Gell. I have him searching for items of antiquity, searching for the items that are vessels for the heralds of our gods. This last effort was a failure - yes, I know what happened, my eyes are everywhere - but do what you must. If you would kill this Gell and take his wealth, you may. But before you kill him, he has one last job for you.

As it has been since the dawn of time, the water devils are our archenemy. They bluster and throw their weight to and fro. We wait, and gather our strength, and strike. After our centuries of fruitless searching, it is these fiends that have finally found one of the holy vessels. We must seize it. The winds blow fickle, do they not?

Gell has the details, get them from him. Hurry, my son, there is no time to spare.

The note is signed with just an eye.

Ser Shadow throws open the box. Within a falchion, hook-bladed and unnaturally cool to the touch.

The falchion is +1 to hit and +1 damage.
