In Highbridge
Cappen was initially met as a violinist working in the Swirling Bathhouse in the city of Highbridge. Haughty and imperious, he did not make a very good impression.
Later he met the party in the party at The Rusty Spigot in Overtown. The musical nemesis of Corliss, this bard extraordinaire informs the party that he has a message for them, but refuses to give it unless Corliss agrees to an onstage Battle of the Bards. Corliss agrees, and the crowd eventually chooses his knee-slapping, sing-along, hold-your-lighter-aloft version of Shitty Shitty Poop Stick as the victor over a morose, dissonant, but virtuoso performance by Cappen. Slightly perturbed, Cappen relays the message to the party: “Yancey has been looking for them and has some information.” This is the initial act that leads the party to the ruined elven city of Kithkaira.
In the Feywild
The party met Cappen again in the Feywild, playing lute onstage at the party on the bottom floor of The Feywild Library. The party humiliated him - at least a little - before disappearing. But Cappan catches up with them later, reveals a shared patron with Corliss, insults them, and expresses his regrets that he is not allowed to fight Corliss.
In Corliss's Dreams
Cappen appears in the dreams of Corliss and is forced to tell him of the importance of his song.
