Castle Rend grows dark as everyone heads off to their room. Only Ser Shadow remains in the Great Hall, watching the stubs of the last candles as they burn down to nothing. And then, whoosh, an errant breeze extinguishes them for good. Is that a metaphor? Perhaps.
Suddenly one of the guards that had been guarding the gate rushes in with a long wooden box and a note. He describes how a women had appeared at the gate and called for Ser Shadow by name. IThe The guard had demanded that she identify herself and she refused. When I it became clear that she would not be let her in, she left this for you the box and note and then disappeared.
Ser Shadow takes the note first and reads.
